SMM 2026 in Hamburg: special fasteners for shipbuilding and marine

September 2026

SMM in Hamburg is the leading trade fair for shipbuilding and marine technology. RS Randack attended in September 2026 and talked to shipyards, propeller and rudder manufacturers, engine and coupling manufacturers and suppliers about fasteners that must withstand seawater, vibration and sustained loads over a ship’s service life. The discussions resulted in new enquiries and a new customer.

What shipbuilding and marine applications require of a bolt

Propeller blade and hub bolts, rudder bolts, coupling bolts for shaft lines and reduced-shank bolts on engines need materials that hold up in seawater, fits that last for years, and a certificate confirmed by a classification society. RS Randack manufactures these parts in Hagen from stainless, duplex and quenched and tempered steels: forged, turned and with rolled threads typically up to M180.

Approved by Bureau Veritas and DNV

RS Randack is recognised by Bureau Veritas under Mode II as a manufacturer of bolts, screws, nuts and fasteners from M4 to M200 (scope of approval; production typically up to M180) and of turned parts up to 300 mm diameter, and is approved by DNV as a manufacturer. Third-party inspections by Bureau Veritas, DNV, Lloyd’s Register, ABS, RINA and other societies take place regularly in our own materials laboratory, with tensile testing of full-size bolts up to 3,000 kN and Charpy impact testing down to −70 °C for cold waters.

More on requirements and certification: special fasteners for shipbuilding and marine. SMM takes place every two years; we look forward to the next edition in 2028, and to your enquiry before then.
