Industry we supply today
High-strength fasteners for bogies, couplers and drives
Rail vehicles cover millions of kilometres exposed to vibration, shock and weather. Joints on bogies, couplers, buffers, brakes, drives and car bodies must therefore be fatigue-resistant, documented and traceable over the life of the vehicle. RS Randack manufactures special bolts, fitted bolts, pins, threaded rods and nuts for manufacturers of rail vehicles and components and for maintenance, with full-size tensile testing and batch documentation per lot.
Typical parts
- High-strength hex head and socket head cap screws in property classes 10.9 and 12.9 for bogie frames, axle boxes and brake mountings
- Fitted bolts and dowel pins with close-tolerance shanks for couplers, buffers and draw gear
- Reduced-shank bolts and studs for drives, gearboxes and traction motors
- Threaded rods, turnbuckles and special bolts for car bodies and equipment
- Nuts in property classes 10 and 12, locking nuts to drawing
Requirements and documentation
- Full-size tensile testing on the tensile testing machine up to 3,000 kN; on request, every 50th bolt in a lot is tensile tested full-size and the test report is attached to the certificate
- Property class verified on the test bar and on the bolt, hardness per batch
- Rolled threads, rolled after heat treatment on dynamically loaded parts
- Magnetic particle crack testing, corrosion protection with zinc flake, inspection certificate 3.1 or 3.2 and first article inspection to customer requirements

Frequently asked questions
Questions and answers about railway and rolling stock
Does RS Randack carry out full-size tensile tests on rail bolts?
Yes, on the tensile testing machine up to 3,000 kN. At the customer’s request, a fixed sample per lot, for example every 50th bolt, is subjected to a full-size tensile test and documented.
Does RS Randack also supply small quantities for maintenance?
Yes. Small series and one-off parts to drawing are our day-to-day business, with a reply within a few hours for urgent requests.
