Bolted flange joints that stay leak-tight under pressure and temperature

Chemical, petrochemical and high-pressure plant engineering is RS Randack’s largest market. Reactors, columns (the tall cylindrical vessels used for distillation and absorption), heat exchangers, valves, compressors and high-pressure piping are held together by bolted flange joints that must stay leak-tight for years under pressure, temperature, temperature cycling and process media. For these joints, RS Randack manufactures stud bolts, studs, hex bolts, reduced-shank bolts and nuts to drawing or standard, as a manufacturer within the meaning of AD 2000 Merkblatt W0 and in accordance with the Pressure Equipment Directive.

Typical parts

  • Stud bolts with 8UN or UNC threads in ASTM A193 B7, B16 and A320 L7 with heavy hex nuts to A194 grades 2H, 4 and 7; see American threads
  • Studs and reduced-shank bolts to DIN 2510 in 42CrMo4, 21CrMoV5-7 and 40CrMoV4-6 for flanges and covers up to high-temperature service
  • Hex head and socket head cap screws in property classes 8.8, 10.9 and 12.9, including large sizes for high-pressure plants
  • Stainless and acid-resistant versions in 1.4571, 1.4462 duplex and nickel-based alloys for corrosive media
  • Nuts, cap nuts, washers and spacer sleeves from the same production

Requirements and documentation

  • Inspection certificate 3.1 to EN 10204 as standard; inspection certificate 3.2 witnessed by a third-party inspection body for pressure equipment to AD 2000 and the Pressure Equipment Directive; witnessed inspections regularly carried out on site
  • Materials to EN 10269 and ASTM, with verification of elevated-temperature yield strength or low-temperature impact energy in our own laboratory
  • Anti-friction coatings over manganese phosphate with a defined friction coefficient for reproducible preload, zinc flake for corrosion protection; see Surface treatment
  • Single-heat supply per line item and full traceability for project documentation and overhauls
