Who is authorised to test at RS Randack and what the levels mean
ISO 9712 governs the qualification and certification of personnel for non-destructive testing. Anyone who performs and evaluates magnetic particle, dye penetrant, ultrasonic or visual testing must provide evidence of training, testing experience and an examination by an independent certification body for each method. The certificates are valid for a limited period and are renewed. At RS Randack, testing is carried out by employees holding Level 2 certificates in the MT, PT, UT and VT methods; an NDT supervisor has been appointed in accordance with AD 2000 HP 4.
The three levels
- Level 1: may carry out and record tests according to written instructions.
- Level 2: may set up and carry out tests, evaluate results to standards, write instructions and guide Level 1 personnel. This is the level that inspection bodies and codes require for evaluation.
- Level 3: is responsible for methods, training and test instructions within an organisation.
Why this matters for your order
Pressure equipment codes, classification societies and the nuclear industry only accept test results if they have been evaluated by qualified personnel. Because RS Randack has these inspectors in-house, crack testing and ultrasonic testing take place without transport to an external laboratory, even for rush orders, and the third-party inspector can witness the test directly during the visit. On request, we include the inspectors’ certificates in the documentation.
Materials testing as a service
RS Randack also offers non-destructive testing for third-party parts, for example as incoming inspection for distributors and plant builders or as evidence for a third-party inspection. Tell us the material, size, quantity, method and standard.
