DNV: approval as a manufacturer for shipbuilding and offshore

DNV is one of the major classification societies for shipping, offshore and wind energy. Its rules specify which materials and parts may be used in classed ships and installations and how their origin must be documented. For manufacturers of materials and fasteners, this is covered by the Approval of Manufacturer: DNV assesses production, testing and quality assurance and approves the company as a manufacturer. Parts from approved manufacturers may be supplied with a manufacturer’s certificate where an individual inspection by a surveyor would otherwise be required.

RS Randack’s approval

RS Randack holds a DNV Approval of Manufacturer for the production of fasteners in Hagen. The certificate with the exact scope is available in the Downloads section and is renewed at fixed intervals. Purchasers from Scandinavian shipbuilding, shipyards, shipping companies and offshore engineering regularly ask specifically for this approval.

What this means for you

Bolts, studs and nuts for rudder systems, propeller shafts, couplings, winches, deck equipment or foundations of offshore installations come with a certificate from our own materials laboratory. Where the rules or the purchaser require an inspection by the surveyor, it takes place on site; DNV is one of the inspection bodies RS Randack works with regularly. In addition, RS Randack holds Mode II approval from Bureau Veritas.

What you should specify

Rules and class, certificate type to DNV or EN 10204, material and strength, drawing or standard, corrosion protection for seawater and the required marking. For urgent cases on board ships in port, please state the dates of the port stay; many fasteners can be delivered at short notice.
