The basic inspection documents to EN 10204
A 2.1 declaration of compliance with the order is the simplest inspection document to EN 10204: the manufacturer confirms that the parts supplied comply with the order, without stating any test results. A 2.2 test report goes one step further: the manufacturer confirms compliance and states test results from non-specific inspection, i.e. from routine production testing, not necessarily on the batch supplied. Both documents are issued by the manufacturer itself, without the involvement of an inspector independent of production.
When is a test report sufficient?
For standard parts and joints that are not safety-relevant, where the purchaser only needs confirmation of compliance with the standard and the order. As soon as a specification requires values for exactly the batch supplied, the 3.1 inspection certificate is the right document; if it requires independent witnessing, the 3.2 inspection certificate.
How RS Randack handles it
RS Randack supplies all four types of inspection document to EN 10204. In practice, enquiries to RS Randack almost always call for a 3.1 or 3.2 certificate, because special fasteners to drawing are generally intended for plants subject to third-party inspection. The values for the test report come from our own materials laboratory; traceability back to the heat is maintained in every case, even if only a 2.2 test report is ordered.
What you should specify
The required type of inspection document to EN 10204 and the standard to which testing is to be carried out. If in doubt, we recommend the 3.1 inspection certificate, which documents the values of the batch supplied for little extra effort.
