Stamp authorisation
When quality assurance may stamp on behalf of the inspection body
Term explained
When quality assurance may stamp on behalf of the inspection body
A stamp authorisation allows the manufacturer to mark test specimens and parts on behalf of an inspection body without an inspector attending the test. The body has assessed the manufacturer’s quality management and materials laboratory and grants quality assurance the right to use its stamp. Testing proceeds as in a witnessed inspection, only without the inspector having to travel; the body monitors the procedure through audits.
What this means for delivery times
For a normal 3.2 inspection, an appointment has to be arranged with the inspector, often several days in advance. With a stamp authorisation, this waiting time is eliminated: quality assurance tests, stamps and issues the certificate as soon as the results are available. For rush orders with a 3.2 certificate, this is often the difference between a week and a day.
How it works at RS Randack
RS Randack holds a stamp authorisation from a classification society for shipbuilding. For other bodies, their stamps are kept on site and applied by the inspector in attendance; the mark of an inspection organisation can even be incorporated into the forging die if the specification requires it. Which body is responsible for your part is determined by the code that applies to you; name the body in your enquiry and we will tell you whether the inspection is possible without an appointment.
