EN 15048 and CE marking of structural bolting assemblies

EN 15048-1 is the European standard for non-preloaded structural bolting assemblies in steel construction: bolt and nut supplied together as an assembly and used in load-bearing components of industrial buildings, bridges, masts, crane runways or racking systems. Because they are load-bearing construction products, they fall under the Construction Products Regulation (EU) 305/2011. Anyone placing them on the market in Europe must CE-mark them and issue a Declaration of Performance, which requires certified factory production control.

What certification means

A notified body assesses the manufacturer’s factory production control: initial type testing of the product, ongoing inspection of production, test equipment, traceability and marking. RS Randack holds this certification from TÜV NORD as the notified body and is audited annually; the most recent surveillance audit found no nonconformities. The certificate of conformity of the factory production control and the Declaration of Performance are available in the Downloads section. The SB marking on bolt and nut identifies the assembly as conforming to EN 15048.

Bolting assemblies to drawing

The advantage for steel construction: even special assemblies that do not correspond to any standard bolt, for example long anchor bolts, bolts with special heads or sizes outside the standard ranges, can be manufactured, tested and CE-marked by RS Randack as assemblies to EN 15048, in property classes 4.6 to 10.9 and with surface finishes such as hot-dip galvanising or zinc flake.
